Thank you for your inquiry. The J-4/J4000 uses 1500 WATTS and plugs into a standard 110/115 volt outlet. This has a three position switch--off, preheat, and on with automatic shut off. The J-4/J4000 steamer can be left on preheat during working hours. When steam is desired it can be switched to on and steam is produced in a few seconds.
