Thank you for your inquiry. The Optex® Wireless Indoor_Outdoor Alert Systems, item #18160 is a motion sensor. It uses passive infrared to detect motion and signals to receivers. You would place the transmitter where you would like to have the motion sensor, then you can put the receiver where you will be. The receiver and transmitter can be located 1000' apart line of sight, which means that buildings walls, trees etc. will decrease the transmission range. Please let us know if we may assist further.
