Are these shelves wood? Can they be cut to a smooth edge by a saw? If so i would like to make a purchase.

Thank you for your inquiry. The Black Laminated Melamine Shelves are constructed of a pressed melamine with a laminate finish. It is not recommended that you cut the shelves as this would damage the laminate finish and edging of the shelving. Please let us know if you require any additional assistance.
